Dr. Andrew Deans

Dr. Andrew Deans

Dr. Andrew Deans (he/him/his) was born in London, England, and studied Medicine at St George’s University. Tired of the big city, his first job out of medical school was in the Scottish Highlands where, instead of meeting a nice Scottish girl, he met a lovely Canadian one. Thus began many years of adventure! He and his partner next moved to New Zealand where he worked in Urgent Care, whilst plotting his eventual move to Canada. Some hard work and an enormous quantity of paperwork later, Dr. Deans completed his Family Medicine residency training right here in the Kootenays. He considers himself extremely lucky to be able to continue practicing medicine here on the beautiful, unceded territory of the Ktunaxa, Syilx and Sinixt Peoples, alongside the many terrific colleagues and educators he met during his residency. Dr. Deans holds particular interest in medical education, rural medicine, chronic pain and palliative care.

Dr. Richard Milde

Dr. Milde stumbled across Nelson during a beautiful hot summer in 1994.  Nelson fulfilled a long-term desire to work in a rural community.  Dr. Milde was motivated to learn as much as possible and took advantage of all the clinical opportunities available here.  That resulted in 15 years of emergency medicine experience and 27 years of obstetrical experience.  While he is no longer delivering babies he is still passionate about looking after acutely ill newborns.  He enjoys meeting with his family practice patients and continues to look after their medical and surgical needs at Kootenay Lake Hospital.
